Events

Rugby First in partnership with businesses, Rugby Borough Council and other organisations deliver an exciting annual programme of high quality events. The events have proved extremely effective in increasing town centre footfall, spend, raising the profile of Rugby and businesses, and attracting new customers and businesses to the town.

St. Georges Day

St George, his trusted steed, dragons, birds of prey, crafts and medieval musicians turn Rugby into a patriotic sea of red and white in what is one of Warwickshire’s biggest and most popular St George’s Day celebrations. Attracting more than 1,000 people, the event brings businesses and local school children together, providing a colourful spectacle, and a welcome boost to the local economy. Summer Fun Days

A series of free family events, held the last Saturday of each month, between April and September. Taking place on High Street between 12 noon and 3pm, the increasingly popular events, create a fun atmosphere in town with a number of opportunities for businesses to get involved. Rugby Festival of Culture

Although only its third year the festival has become one of Rugby’s biggest and most popular events attracting over 8,500 people in 2013 and boosting town centre footfall by over 10%. The exciting programme, focussed on the town centre, and consisting of more than 100 individual events, provides some superb promotional opportunities for businesses, as well as the opportunity to increase footfall and spend. Rugby Food and Drink Festival (including Rugby Real Ale Trail)

The first event took place in 2013 and cooked up a real storm as thousands enjoyed the fantastic feast of food, fun and real ales served up. Boosting town centre footfall by almost 25% and raising the profile of both the town and the 50 plus local businesses involved (including all 12 pubs on the ‘Rugby Real Ale Trail’), the festival is a real showcase for the amazing variety of food, drink and ‘Real Ales’ that the town and surrounding area has to offer. Christmas Light Switch-On

In 2013, over 10,000 people took to the streets of Rugby to see a new look event which included the light switch-on, music by ex-factor finalists ‘Kingsland Road’, a food fayre, fireworks, arts and crafts, funfair and live reindeers! Businesses opening on the day benefitted from the significant footfall along with a welcome boost to their festive takings. For further information or to get involved please contact us.

Santa’s Grotto

The ever popular Santa’s Grotto, organised by the Rotary Clubs of Rugby, with significant promotional and operational support from Rugby First, continues to be successful in increasing town centre footfall (in 2012 over 600 people visited the grotto). Every year numbers rise as parents take the opportunity to combine a visit to the grotto with their Christmas shopping, so great news for business!

Window Dressing Competitions

During the year Rugby First organise several hotly contested ‘Best Dressed Window Competitions’ - open to both retail and non-retail businesses. The competition attracts some great free publicity for your business, gets you noticed and has the potential to attract new customers – it’s also fun! To find out more speak with a Ranger.
